I've recently been having problems exporting my feeds into an OPML file. I've successfully did an export a few months ago, but it's not working now. Now, when I hit the export button, it opens a dialogue box and asks me where to save it. However, when I hit save, it simply closes the dialogue box and the export is not completed.
anybody know why this might be happening? Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks.
Re: OPML Export not working
What's your Firefox and Brief version? Also what OS are you using? Does the Error Console (under Tools) say anything about Brief while you use it on your current profile and on a clean (no extensions, themes, and plug-ins installed except for Brief itself) profile?
Re: OPML Export not working
I have Firefox 3.5.2 and Brief 1.2.1 on Ubuntu Jaunty. The export is not working.
Thanks.
Re: OPML Export not working
Have you tried a new profile with only Brief and a few Live Bookmarks? Also since you're using a Linux distro, you should know some Linux distros are not compatible with Brief. To check to see if your Linux distro has problems with Brief, try the official Mozilla Firefox version instead of your distro's version. Be sure you try the official Mozilla version with a new profile with only Brief and a few Live Bookmarks installed.
While you check your distro and Mozilla versions of Firefox, monitor the Error Console (Tools > Error Console) for Brief-specific error messages. Record any and post them here.

Re: OPML Export not working
I have not tried a new profile. I want to export my 76k+ feed entries. The SQLite file is over 300MB.
This is the only error that seems to show up:
Invalid chrome URI: /
Re: OPML Export not working
You should try what I suggested. This is to rule out if one of your installed add-ons in your original profile is conflicting with Brief or if your distro is breaking Brief (that is if you're using your distro's version of Firefox).

Re: OPML Export not working
@Micah Gersten
First of all, Export button doesn't export feed entries. It exports the list of subscribed feeds, so that you can then import it to another feed reader. If you need to save the feed entries, just copy brief.sqlite.
That said, I don't know why exporting the list of feeds doesn't work for you. Could you please describe in detail what happens and at which point the error appears?

Re: OPML Export not working
I may have a clue: if your feeds are in subfolders, Brief does not export an OPML. If you focus the "feeds" list on a subfolder that does contain feeds, then an OPML is generated.
For instance, here is a part of my bookmarks tree:
- feeds (the folder used as the Brief root)
- tech (tech rss)
- design (design rss)
(etc.)
If I click on feeds then try to export, nothing happens. If I click on tech, then only tech feeds are exported.
It would be a good thing if Brief exported as OPML the entirety of feeds, since it knows where its root is, it could crawl through the whole subdirectory structure.
Thanks for Brief, btw. Very nice job.
