Links in Slashdot comments don't work

Hi, I'm using Brief 1.2.4 and Firefox 3.0.14 on Kubuntu 9.04. When I click on an article title of the Slashdot feed, the Slashdot page is shown but none of the links in the comments work. Ordinary links in the page work, but the links for collapsing/expanding comments don't do anything at all. (So it's probably a JavaScript issue.) The same page opened directly has working links, just not when opened through Brief. Does anyone else have that problem?
All other feeds work and I'm a otherwise happy Brief user.
Thanks,

Jos.

Re: Links in Slashdot comments don't work

Do you see the same problem using a new profile with only Brief and a few Live Bookmarks?  And are you using your Linux distro's version of Firefox or the version produced by Mozilla?

Re: Links in Slashdot comments don't work

Yes, with a brand new profile and only Slashdot, I get the same results: clicks don't work in the comments.
And yes, it is the distro version (Help/About says "Mozilla Firefox for Ubuntu 3.0.14 - canonical 1.0")
Thanks,
Jos.

Re: Links in Slashdot comments don't work

So you don't have conflicting add-ons then.  Now to rule out if your distro broke Brief.  Try installing Firefox from Mozilla directly, start a new profile in that, and only install Brief and a few Live Bookmarks to it.  Let me know if Slashdot works or not after doing this.

By the way, did the Error Console (Tools > Error Console) list anything about Brief solely when you've been trying to debug the Slashdot problem?  If you wish, turn javascript.options.showInConsole on in about:config and then monitor the Error Console for Brief specific error messages.  Record any messages about Brief and post them here.

Re: Links in Slashdot comments don't work

Answering your second question first:
When I open a Slashdot page from the feed listing, I get a host of css warnings, then:
Error: [Exception... "Access to property denied"  code: "1010" nsresult: "0x805303f2 (NS_ERROR_DOM_PROP_ACCESS_DENIED)"  location: "http://c.fsdn.com/sd/all-minified.js?T_2_5_0_275 Line: 1"]
Source file: http://c.fsdn.com/sd/all-minified.js?T_2_5_0_275
Line: 1
Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Access to property denied"  code: "1010" nsresult: "0x805303f2 (NS_ERROR_DOM_PROP_ACCESS_DENIED)"  location: "http://c.fsdn.com/sd/all-minified.js?T_2_5_0_275 Line: 1"]
When clicking on the comment links, I get no additional errors.
I will go about installing Firefox from Mozilla later today.

Thanks again,
Jos.

Re: Links in Slashdot comments don't work

OK, I installed the latest Firefox 3.5.3 from the Mozilla website. I have verified that I am running that version. I install Brief, restart Firefox, add Slashdot to the feed list, open an article page, and I still get no response from clicking on a comment link.
The error console gives me the same "Access to property denied" messages as before. I took a look at that line of Javascript, but it is a line 6617 characters long, so good luck with that :-)
Anything else I can try?

Jos.

Re: Links in Slashdot comments don't work

I've reproduced your problem under:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090824 Firefox/3.5.3

Either Brief conflicts with Slashdot or Slashdot conflicts with Brief. I guess now we wait to see what ancestor says when he gets around to reading this thread.  For now, you could set the option to have Brief open items in new tabs to workaround the problem.
