Occasionally one of my feeds will "hang" while updating. If this is the case then the entire update run won't complete, resulting in feeds not being updated until I notice that something is actually hanging.
There fore it would be great to have a timeout on feed updates. If for example a feed doesn't update for 60 seconds it will be skipped until the next update run. No user settings are required, if one really wanted to change the timeout value it a possibility could be provided via about:config.
Re: Feature Request: Timeout for feed updates
I agree, does that to me too and seems to slow down my browser (nnot in speed but it lag)
Re: Feature Request: Timeout for feed updates
Does the hang occur with a new profile with nothing but Brief and a few Live Bookmarks installed to it?

Re: Feature Request: Timeout for feed updates
Yes.
Re: Feature Request: Timeout for feed updates
Did the Error Console (Tools > Error Console) list anything Brief related while you were testing to see if this was a Brief bug or a bug due to add-on conflicts? If necessary, toggle javascript.options.showInConsole to true in about:config before testing Brief again and checking the Error Console.

Re: Feature Request: Timeout for feed updates
No, nothing is reported in the error console. I suspect that the connection times out or is being reset and that Brief simply does not recognize that.
Re: Feature Request: Timeout for feed updates
Ok. One last thing: What Brief version, Firefox version, and OS are you using? You can post your user agent (Help > About Firefox) to answer the question.
EDIT - Ah, I forgot something. In about:config, what values are extensions.brief.update.backgroundFetchDelay and extensions.brief.update.defaultFetchDelay set to? Those two preferences control how long Brief takes to check each feed during updates (background is when Brief is closed and default is when Brief is open).

Re: Feature Request: Timeout for feed updates
Well, the Brief Version doesn't show up in the user agent, doesn't it? ;-)
I'm running Vista SP2, FX 3.5.5 and Brief 1.2.4.
The values in about:config are set to:
extensions.brief.update.backgroundFetchDelay;4000
extensions.brief.update.defaultFetchDelay;2000
Are you sure that these values really "control how long Brief takes to check each feed during updates"? For me it seems like these settings control how fast Brief will start updating a subsequent feed, regardless of whether or not the previous feed was already successfully updated. That can result in several feeds being updated at the same time, in some cases as much a five concurrently.
Re: Feature Request: Timeout for feed updates
Sorry, I typed that wrong. But thanks for answering though.
Well this is what I thought as the values for those two prefs are in milliseconds (1,000 milliseconds = 1 second). Perhaps I'm mistaken. Anyways, ancestor should have what he needs now to decide to take this up or not.
